The Blessing of a Great Doctor

I have to say, I believe I have found the best pediatrician on Earth.  He is not paying me to endorse him. He probably won't ever even know I wrote about him. However, since I specialize in photographing babies and children and I have had the BEST experience with my current pediatrician, I decided I had to write about him today. Until I found him, I stressed and cried with worry every time my kids got sick, because either I couldn't get appointments when I needed them or the appointments would be rushed and I would leave with many unanswered questions. So for all the moms or dads out there who need to find a new, better pediatrician... this is for you:

I went through 3 pediatricians before finding Dr. Roger Sisk in Marietta, and when I finally found him in 2007, I immediately knew he was The One! HE was THE doctor I could entrust my kids to, and since my kids hold my heart, this was a very difficult position for a doctor to obtain! Everything about Dr. Sisk is amazing. He is great with the kids. He is great with the parents. He is just a great doctor!

With the kids, he talks to them on their level. When he goes to listen to their hearts/lungs, he warms up his stethoscope (just a little detail I noticed that have never seen another doctor do); when he is finished looking in their eyes he has them "blow out" the light like a candle. (The kids look forward to this!) When he looks in their ears, he always "finds" a popular character living in there - which cracks the kids up! (And he knows who to have reside in each kids' ears!)  Everything he does during the checkup puts the kids at ease. My kids actually look forward to going to see Dr. Sisk! So much so, that when one of them is sick, the others get jealous that they are not sick an thus don't get to go with us!

With the parents, he is just as wonderful. He is SO very encouraging. You know, as a mom, you always worry if you are doing the right thing, or if you are messing your kids up for life! He always ends each visit with a statement like this: "You are doing a great job, mom. Keep it up!" I know he probably says this to all the moms, LOL, but it still is so nice to hear!!  He also listens to me! When I am unsure or uncomfortable about something, or have extra questions, he takes the time to answer all my questions and put me at ease with whatever we are discussing. I know I can trust him. And  I know he will listen to my "motherly intuition" (unlike my last pediatrician who actually argued with me about my 2nd infant son's condition! He said he was just colicky, but I knew he was in pain! That is when I decided to find a new pediatrician. Within the first 5 minutes with Dr. Sisk, he diagnosed him with chronic acid reflux! So much so, that he referred us to a pediatric gastroenterologist! He couldn't believe my previous pediatrician dismissed my concerns!) Oh, he also defines the phrase "going above and beyond." With my new baby, we are fighting jaundice, and have had to get his blood tested almost every day since being discharged from the hospital. This includes three weekends. Yet, after each test every weekend, Dr. Sisk called me himself  with the results and his next plan of action. I have NEVER had a doctor call me him/herself, let alone on a Saturday or Sunday! Yet, he has, 5 times now (including today)! Yep, ever since that first appointment in 2007, every visit with him just confirms to both my husband and me that we have found the BEST pediatrician ever.

If you are looking for a great pediatrician, contact Dr. Sisk. I promise, you'll love him too!

A Very Special "April Special"

To kick of our "grand re-opening" we are going to hold a very special April Special in honor of a very special and beautiful itty bitty baby named Scarlette...

You see, her Mommy went in to preterm labor, too. However, the doctors were not able to stop it, and her precious baby was born at 25 weeks. You can read all about Scarlette's story here. The huge blessing is that Scarlette is alive & well, but she is fighting for her chance to go home from the NICU. Her story touches my heart to its core for many reasons, but mostly because we just went through the scare of preterm labor ourselves. No one knows what causes preterm labor, and why sometimes the doctors can successfully stop it, and other times they cannot. I am eternally grateful that they were able to stop mine when it started at 29 weeks. But not a moment went by that week or in the weeks that followed that I didn't think of sweet Scarlette and her Mom, KA, realizing they were not as lucky. When I went into labor again at 36 weeks, this time, they were unable to stop it. But our was born healthy and strong, despite the doctors' many warnings of all the problems he could have had. Again, I Thank God for this blessing, but I have to wonder why? Why do some babies make it just fine, some struggle and  still many others never make it at all?

It is the goal of The March of Dimes to research and find answers to these and many other questions. And now, KA and her husband Jeff, have started Team Scarlett to obtain sponsors for their walk in The March of Dimes. We consider it a privilege to partner with them and be able to offer two April Specials in their honor:

  1. %10 of all sessions and sales from the month of April will be donated to Team Scarlette at The March of Dimes.

  2. Anyone who books a session for the month of April and mentions Team Scarlette will receive a free $50 print credit, good towards any combination of professional prints up to $50!  (Remember, you also get a high resolution CD of all your edited images with your session fee!)

We are praying for baby Scarlette and we thank you for helping us support them! I look forward to hearing from you!

The Best Excuse Ever

Well, I am so excited to finally be able to introduce you to the reason I had to take so much time off from shooting and editing your portraits...

Meet our precious new baby boy... Baby S! He was born March 1 at 8:53 am, weighing 5 pounds 4 ounces and was 17.6 inches long.  He was still 4 weeks early, but is healthy as can be. We are struggling a little with jaundice. However, in light of the many other problems he could have had, we consider this quite the blessing! It was such a delight to shoot his newborn portraits! I have been away from my camera for far too long! And I have been anxiously awaiting his arrival, as well! So it was quite a momentous time for me. Hope you enjoy them too!

The many faces of Mr. S!!  <3

Had to have a picture of him next to something to compare his size
and show how tiny he his!  HIS BEAR IS BIGGER THAN HIM!!!

Now that this tough pregnancy is over (finally!) I am ready to begin booking sessions again! We should be all recovered and ready to shoot by the beginning of April, so I will start taking appointments for that time. It will be perfect! Easter Portraits! Spring Portraits! Spring Break Portraits... whatever occasion you wish! Call or email me today, as I will have limited times available until Baby S is a bit bigger :)

Thank you for your patience! I will be finishing the editing many of you have been waiting on over the course of the next two weeks. You will hear from me soon!

And then, I can't wait to spend time with you and your precious families again and take some more memorable portraits for you!
