About DLP

Dulce Light Photography was founded with two ideas in mind:

  1. They're Your Kids, Your Pictures!!
  2. There's a need for Truly Affordable Custom Portraits... because they are only little once!

Hi! I am Dianne! Just a girl who grew up dreaming about life & love and finding a way to live out my many passions. It has been pure joy discovering my identity in Christ, and then living my dream of being a wife and mother! Which lead me to discover my passion for photography...

You see, when my first son was born I could not afford custom portraits, and ended up having to take all his milestone portraits at a supermarket studio. They weren't terrible, but they were also not custom, true to who he was. Instead, they were cookie-cutter, typical poses you see of everyone who buys there. I wanted more for my kids. I wanted to capture their personalities! I wanted to forever freeze that first tooth, that one-of-a-kind grin! But when I tried to go to a custom photographer with my second son, after I paid the session fee that did not include anything else, I ended up only being able to afford one 5x7. Period. Nothing else. She kept the rest of the beautiful shots she took, and my 3 month old's once-in-a-lifetime picture-perfect moments were forever gone.
By now, I am sure she has deleted them all.

I know photographers have to price themselves carefully, taking into account taxes, insurance, overhead, cost of equipement, etc. (There are many articles all over the blogosphere explaining the many extensive costs of owning a photography business -it's quite expensive) So I do not fault her for her style. However, my heart broke for the moments lost since I could not afford to re-do his 3 month portraits somewhere else. Therefore, I began to study and learn how to create my own custom portraits. Then people started asking me to photograph their kids. Suddenly I realized I should offer the custom portraits I so desperately wanted to be able to afford!

That's why I do what I do at the price I do it. So you can be free to  Focus on Moments by allowing me focus on capturing them, without stressing your budget!!  (You can check out my prices here.)  (You may also be wondering how I can offer these prices despite the thoroughly explained expenses of owning a photography business. The reason is simple: I am not a full-time photographer. I am a part time, free lance photographer offering this service out of the passions & desires of my heart. Which means: 1) there may be delays in my turn-around time of getting your pictures back to you as I juggle my photography with a semi-full time career, four kids and a hubby - but you WILL GET THEM. 2) I also don't have all that fancy equipment the professionals have- BUT YOU CAN STILL GET BEAUTIFUL PORTRAITS WITHOUT THEM.  I have long studied and continue to hone my craft, and believe I can offer you priceless moments frozen in time at an affordable price.)

After photographing my first few families, I soon realized motherhood nurtured my love for photography, and well, I saw my passions compliment each other!! What a blessing!!

However, that's why my blog site may seem kind of strange.  Because now I try to live out my passions every day and hope to encourage others to do the same as well by sharing what I learn about photography, as well as faith, family and life in general on this platform. You will see that it mostly contains the stories behind my photography, but there may also be personal posts, and silly or random thoughts at times.  When I try to separate my "Professional Life" from my "Personal Life" completely, I find that I lose track of one or the other. That just won't do! I am a 100% kind of girl! If I can't give 100% or more, it is unacceptable! So I won't try to hide my personal thoughts or life on my professional site, just as I don't hide my professional passions on my personal blog. I hope this gives you more insight into the kind of photographer I am so you will better know if I am the right fit for your family. You see, finding the photographer with the right fit for your family is what will ultimately result in the best, most natural photos of your precious ones.

When it comes to my career, I feel truly blessed beyond words. It is always such an honor for me to have the opportunity to photograph your precious family, helping you capture those moments forever. I am so grateful that God gave me a way to reach out to people and give them a gift they will treasure forever. When you first meet me, I may be shy. But I have a love for people that drives me to push through it and get to know you and your heart. My passion for people and life and the beauty of God's creation is what drives me to take pictures and create beautiful, affordable, custom portraits.

Thank you for inviting me into your life & allowing me to help you focus on those fleeting precious moments!

Enough about me, what about that name?!

Dulce Light Photography?!???...

When choosing the name for my photography business we decided 3 things:
  1. It needed to have a special meaning
  2. It had to reflect who I am and what I do and why I do it
  3. Also, my husband insisted I had to include a Spanish word to reflect that part of me as well. (Yes I speak Spanish! My mom's family are all in Colombia, South America. Que Bella es Colombia!!

Finally, with tons of help from family & friends, we came up with Dulce Light Photography.

Dulce = "sweet" in Spanish (pronounced "duel-seh")

Light = essential in photographs, essential in life

Photography = life's way of helping us Focus on Moments

And wow! I love it! It has multiple meanings for me on so many levels!

  • Life is sweet (but eternity is sweeter!)
  • The best light for photography is known as "the sweet light" of sunrise and sunset
  • My savior is often symbolized by a Lighthouse, lighting the way for us in the darkness of this world. THAT is definitely sweet light as well! Also, we are called to be light of the world ; )
  • My two initials I've had all my life are DL, for Dianne Lee. My second name was given to me in honor of my precious Grandma Lee. So what better way to honor her than by using her name in my art.

AND... All of that is probably more info than you wanted, but now you know a bit more about me to help you decide if I would be the right photographer for you :)

Drop me a line & let me get to know you & YOUR precious family!!

I hope to hear from you soon!  Looking forward to it ;)
